[CITATION NEEDED]: A Game of Wikipedian Archaeology |
The Association of Wikipedian Archaeology (AWA) invites proposals for the 3021 Annual Interplanetary Conference to take place at the Conference Center in McAuliffe Station at Earth-Moon L2. This year’s theme is “Notable Notions: Who/What Was Most Important During the Early 21st Century”. With the recent discovery of a number of unlinked Wikipedia pages from the late Antiquity period of the Pre-Interstellar Dark Age, many new perspectives have emerged on this mysterious period of history. We invite abstracts on this theme to help puzzle out who or what was most ‘notable’. We particularly invite proposals from research teams of sentients from different institutions both within the Solar League and from elsewhere in the Orion Arm. Welcome to [Citation Needed], a re-playable 2-hour LARP for 3-6 players and potentially no GMs. Be part of a diverse academic team describing “ancient times” (our present day) by interpreting fragments - a selection of Wikipedia articles - for an academic abstract. A modest level of mechanics should be expected, including character creation and a discussion of content limits. |

Information for Players: | The authors posit all materials have be read and understood prior to game. This is currently about 11 pages of rules, 10 pages of bluesheets, and template of about 5 forms useful for keeping updated and shared between players during a run of the game. Random Wikipedia articles are selected as part of the mechanism of the game. We address potential difficult material dredged as a result of this by several means which largely fall under workshopping the material. We explicitly calling for certain elements to be excluded, request relatively anonymous feedback for any additional lines, allow for a veto of any item, communicate a cut/brake mechanism, and discuss expectations and encourage supportive play prior to the run. About half of the runtime is allocated for this. |
