It's Everybody's War |
"We in this quiet corner of England have suffered the loss of friends very dear to us. The homes of many of us have been destroyed, and the lives of young and old have been taken. There's scarcely a household that hasn't been struck to the heart. And why? Surely you must have asked yourselves this question? Why in all conscience should these be the ones to suffer? "I shall tell you why. Because this is not only a war of soldiers in uniform. It is the war of the people, of all the people. And it must be fought not only on the battlefield but in the cities and in the villages, in the factories and on the farms, in the home and in the heart of every man, woman and child who loves freedom. This is the People's War. It is our war. We are the fighters. Fight it then. Fight it with all that is in us. And may God defend the right." Quote from Mrs Miniver, a British film made in 1942. September 1940, the village hall in Cropstone, Leicestershire. In the midst of the Blitz, England endures. The Ministry of Information Film Unit have sent a cast and crew to the heart of the countryside to make a wartime propaganda movie to keep up people’s spirits on the home front. Even in this quiet corner of England, we are all very much aware that no one is untouched by the current crisis, because It’s Everybody’s War. The characters will be either residents of the village, evacuees, or newly arrives with the film crew. Expect intrigue, passion, petty rivalries, secrets and lies. |

Information for Players: | Character sheets and background will be about 6-8 pages long. 1940s costuming suitable for daytime is encouraged for atmosphere. The game is balanced between character and actual plot, there are no widget hunts though. The theme would be Keep Calm and Carry On, except you can't get away from it printed on inappropriate things. The game deals with adult themes and general wartime events from laddered stockings and scrumped apples to camouflaged defences. There are issues of discrimination, period authentic sexism and racism (though these are not dwelt upon) and attitutes to perceived or actual cowardice are explored. | ||||

Curd, Natalie
I started coming to Consequences in 2012 and since then I have developed a
love for playing, writing and running games. I always look forward to
consequences for a fantastic weekend of socialising & gaming.
Jacklin, Kevin
Kevin has been playing in, writing, producing and promoting freeform games for more than 20 years. A successful trilogy of co-written games, beginning with Home of the Bold in 1992 were the mainstay of the Convulsion convention, and introduced many stalwarts of the UK Freeforms group to the genre. Kevin produced the first UK weekend-long game of Cafe Casablanca under the Convivium banner in 1995. Kevin also enjoys boardgames, and it is through his association with designer Reiner Knizia that he has devised Hollywood Lives, which aims to meld together the constructive anarchy of freeforms with the world of high-pressure movie production and finance in an entertaining way.
Kaye, Heidi
Generally found on the sofa with a laptop into the wee hours, you are addicted to
freeforms and board gaming. Having started on a whim as a last-minute player in
Home of the Bold at Convulsion in 1992, your obsession has grown and grown.
Beginning by playing freeforms at cons and the occasional game of Settlers of
Catan at home, you swiftly moved on to writing, running and playing freeforms at
every opportunity and owning a large collection of board games, playing them both
in real life and online. As Comfy Chair of Peaky Games, you conduct an annual
Spanish Inquisition as to who’s working on which freeforms to prepare them for
publication, in your mania to spread your passion for freeforming to the whole
world.
Your abilities are: existing on little sleep, writing your cats into your games and carrying a big stick.
Your Heart Ability (usable by your True Love) is multi-tasking.
Your goals are: find the six-fingered man who killed your father, the one-armed man who killed your brother's wife and the woman in white who escaped from the asylum. And maybe find some romance on the way....
